Trapani

After our traumatic events of yesterday we scaled down our activities today and went to the beach at Trapani about 100 kilometres west of Palermo.  We can report Sicily is hot, dry, rocky and beautiful.  The beaches have darker sand than ours but still very sandy feel to it.  The water is so clear and blue it looks postcard like.  Drove through a lot of rural areas, many of the houses and properties seemed abandoned or very run down.  Lots of grapes and a few sheep and crops.  Mostly mountains, rocks and sand.  Had a swim at Trapani then back to the motel for a swim in the pool.  The weather is still being very kind to us, fingers crossed it holds up now we are going to be spending a week following the beaches up to Rome.  The temperature has been ranging from about 22 to 30, it has been a little hazy at times but so far, on most days, the clouds have stayed away.
The driving was a little less difficult today, I think last night it took us by surprise and during the day it was a little easier to see things coming at us from all directions.  They are still nuts though.  It seems it is optional to wear helmets on scooters and motor bikes.  There seem to be a lot of children about 12 or 15 riding them too.  We saw a bloke on a moped today with a passenger holding two 20 foot tent pegs riding along the road.  Coming home on our road we saw another with 2 huge crates of bread, one on the back, one on his knees, he could hardly see where he was going.  He went through a red light in front of us, not to worry, a car followed him through.  Lucky we now know red lights are to be ignored if possible.
Got back to the motel about 4, had a swim and lazed the day away until tea time.

This is a 'rubbish stop'. They have exits off the road where you can dump rubbish,
an endloader comes along when it is full, puts it in a truck and carries it away.
