Palermo to Agrigento

Left Palermo and headed south through the centre of Sicily towards Agrigento.  Got there about 12 and went straight to one of the big attractions in Sicily – Valley of the Temples.  A couple of significant temples from the Greek reign here in about 500BC.  Of course the site has been invaded and had a few make-overs since then but it is still very impressive.
Being Italy the ‘Valley’ where the temples are is on a high ridge with views to Agrigento and the other way towards the sea.  A very hot day today so when we finished there we went to our B&B then headed for the beach.
Very quiet on the roads and at the beach, couldn’t find a restaurant opening before 8pm so we lowered ourselves to having McDonalds on the way home from the beach.  Got home, had a shower and went out about 8 to have a look at the temples lit up.  They looked great but couldn’t get a photo, couldn’t get close enough on the road and we weren’t going to pay to go into the site again.  What did surprise us – the crowds, the roads were packed, there were people everywhere.
We don’t understand these Italians – they don’t come alive till after dark and when they do it is at full pace.  Glad to get back to the safety of our place and relax with a red wine.

Hils and wind farm in central Sicily.

Castle on a rock in central Sicily.

Car park to one of the big attractions in Sicily - very casual!!

High-tec security gates - not sure anyone would jump the fence though, cameras everywhere.

At the most complete temple.

At the next one.

Not much left of this one though.

An old, old olive tree.

Agrigento and the road into the town.

Pam and columns.

Pam and rocks and columns.

With what is left of the statue Zeus with Agrigento in the background.

Pam not trusting the 'safety rail.'

Trying to hide from the photographer.

Temple.

The place was like a desert today and the vegetation matched the temperature.

Bridge on the way to the beach.

Golden Beach where we had a swim.

Had a drink at the bar at this beach.
