Slept in this morning for our last day in Rome. Had a bit of packing and organising to do for
our visit to Germany tomorrow so didn’t get away till 10 o’clock.
I probably should mention our unit at this stage.
All the accommodation we’ve had has been very
good value and exactly what we’ve needed.
Rome is a little different.
The
internet describes it as ‘ground floor’.
It’s
actually a basement flat and we can open the window and look at a really nice
brick wall.
If we strain our necks we
can see a patch of sky through some trees so we can see what the weather is
like above ground.
There is a bit of a
damp smell which they try to cover up with those really sickly sweet smelling
room deodorisers.
I like to call it our
little basement flat; Pam calls it the dungeon!!!
It’s got plenty of room, the bedroom is a
little small with the bed up against one wall and about 30 centimetres on the
other.
The room is white and there is a
HUGE sun painted on the ceiling (probably to give the illusion of sunshine in
the flat??).
In reality – we leave
straight after breakfast and get home so tired and crash into bed so it’s
pretty good for us. It is so close to everything too - couple of hundred metres to the Colosseum and able to walk to every big attraction certainly makes things easy. Just wouldn’t want to spend 6 months here, think I’d start to
tunnel out to freedom.

Our flat - with the sun!!! Excuse the mess. You may notice there are not many windows??!! |
So back to today.
After Pam has spent the last 35 days following the plans I had made – it
was her turn to take the lead. You can
guess where that ended up? Every leather
shop, handbag shop, clothes shop and jewellery shop in Rome. I have checked the map and I think we may
have missed one street in Rome Central…..
I stuck around outside watching all the action on the roads.
Pam has had her eye on a purse since we
arrived in Italy. She saw it in a shop
yesterday, we went back to get it today…. gone…there were nearly tears. Looked everywhere else – no luck – looks like
the internet shopping will get used when we get home if she can’t get it at the
airport.
Not many photos today – no-one wants to see a whole series
of photos of clothes/bags/shoes!! Pam did buy some Rosary Beads which had been blessed by the Pope, I had to buy a new mouse for the computer - it must have been blessed by the Pope too - God it's good!!!!

I want one...I even have a shirt to match. |

Mixing it with the Carabinieri. |

Some more Italian Police pictures for the grandchildren. |

Ruins in the centre of town. |

Archeologist looking for the next treasure. |
 |
Service station Italian style - these are on the footpath all over the place. |
I actually gasped when I read that you couldn't get the handbag! The same thing happened to me yesterday. I was going to buy these sunnies that I'd been looking at for months and they were all sold out. So devasting...you'll just have to buy many more different ones instead to make up for it!
